Scholarship Program for Bartlett High School Senior Students

2025-2026 School Year

The 2025 - 2026 application process will open on October 13, 2025 and the

deadline will be December 16, 2025.


Minimum Requirements: Applicant must be a current student at Bartlett High School,

an Alaskan Resident, and have a minimum GPA of 2.75


Introduction: The Bartlett Community Forum, named in honor of U.S. Senator Bob

Bartlett of Alaska, is proud to sponsor an annual scholarship program for students at

Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska. The scholarship is intended to assist

students continuing on to a post secondary education (two-year or four-year degree,

trade school, or apprenticeship program). Senator Bartlett’s legacy of dedication to the

State of Alaska and its residents continues to inspire Alaskans today. As a tribute to his

commitment to public service, the scholarship program aims to encourage young

Alaskans to explore civic engagement, leadership, and community service through an

Theme of the Essay Contest:

“The Role of Civic Engagement in Building Stronger Communities: Lessons from U.S.

Senator Bob Bartlett’s Legacy”


Essay Guidelines:

• Eligibility: The contest is open to full-time senior students currently enrolled at

Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska.

• Essay Length: Essays should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words.

• Format: Typed, double-spaced, using Times New Roman or Arial font (12-point size).

Essays must be submitted electronically in PDF format. The student may include a

supplemental video, however, this is optional.

• Deadline: All submissions must be received by November 14, 2025.

• Content Requirements:

  • An introduction to the theme and a clear essay statement.

• Discussion of Senator Bob Bartlett’s legacy and contributions to Alaska.

• Reflection on the importance of civic engagement and its influence on a

community’s growth.

• Describe how you are contributing to your school and community, and your plans

for future contributions.

• Proper citations, if referencing outside sources, using MLA or APA format.

• Please, no Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated submissions.


Awards:

• First Place: A $2,000 scholarship toward the winner’s post-secondary education,

along with a certificate of achievement and an invitation to the Bartlett Community

Forum’s annual meeting. A post secondary education can be a two-year or four-year

degree, trade school, or apprenticeship program.

• Second Place: A $1,000 scholarship and a certificate of achievement.

• Third Place: A $500 scholarship and a certificate of achievement.

Judging Criteria: Essays will be judged based on the following criteria:

• Clarity of Argument: The ability to clearly articulate the relationship between

Senator Bob Bartlett’s legacy and civic engagement.

• Creativity: Original thought in exploring the themes of civic engagement and

community service.

• Research & Evidence: Thoughtful use of examples, both historical and personal,

to support the essay’s thesis.

• Writing Quality: Proper grammar, sentence structure, and overall coherence.

• Reliance: How well the essay addresses the theme and connects it to real-life

experiences or future actions.

How to Enter: Students interested in participating must submit (electronically) both the

Scholarship Application and their essay to the Bartlett Community Forum by the

specified deadline (email: charitykadow@gmail.com ).

opportunity for Bartlett High School students to engage with the legacy of U.S. Senator

Bob Bartlett on how civic engagement and leadership shape communities. We
